Product Description Fueled by the localvore movement and a tightened economy, more people are motivated to grow their own vegetables, and yet few aspects of gardening are quite as daunting. Sowing seeds, combating pests, harvesting zucchini, it can all be a little overwhelming for the inexperienced gardener. With a clean, crisp, foolproof approach, Pleasant takes the fear out of food gardening in a must-have resource that will appeal to both neophytes and experienced gardeners. From simple bag gardens to bountiful food cornucopias, each garden plan is a symphony in simplicity, laid out with precise lists of materials and plants based on detailed landscape plans suitable for small city gardens as well as larger suburban backyards. Along with year-by-year overviews that allow gardeners to anticipate growth and adapt to changes, Pleasant provides essential cultivation and maintenance techniques, and offers surefire recommendations for top-producing vegetables and herbs.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1G9187ZOINWVA A couple of things to note about my video review:
1. I decided to video review to give others a better glimpse inside the book. The one complaint I have about ordering books online is not being able to flip through the book. I hope my video review helps!
2. This is really an excellent book. I will be using it when I plan my garden (this weekend).
3. Sorry the review is so long. I usually aim for under 2 minutes but I spent some extra time flipping through the pages :)
Enjoy!
Perfectly simple March 22, 2010 Nsews (Maryland) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have many gardening books, and I'm not a brand spanking new vegetable gardener but this book delivered on ALL it's promises. It's an excellent, easy to read, easy to understand, well laid book that gets to the point without the quaint but long winded ramblings that one often finds in gardening books. The charts and illustrations are so helpful. It's the perfect book to learn AND teach from! When I help my neighbors with their gardens this year this book will be my reference and recommendation to buy if one can only have one basic gardening book. Thanks Barbara Pleasant.
A manuel for beginner or experienced gardeners May 2, 2010 Dalene M. Krkosska (Protem, Missouri) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Starter Vegetable Gardens should be on every gardeners bookshelf. Wonderful plans and references during the growing season or good reading in the winter when we are only dreaming of gardening.
Another great book from Storey Publishing April 3, 2010 Ambrosine (Philadelphia, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have several books on gardening from Storey Publishing. They are all very well done, I learn something new every time I open one and start reading. This one is very good for someone starting out.
Stunning and Useful Too April 29, 2010 Nancy Grisso (Tehachapi, CA USA) No only is the book visually stunning, but it's darn useful too.
Based on the theory that with a good plan you can't fail, Barbara Pleasant shows you the three year plan for multiple garden layouts with year by year guilds to make this a fun no fail hobby. What Pleasant does, is gives you not only a shopping list, but a step by step plan for easy gardens from first time gardener to "beyond" beginner. I guess it's up to you how you want to rank yourself. Using planting guides and crop rotations, you too can have the garden that you have always wanted, but have only been able to see in magazines.
Definitely a must have and a must keep on your shelf for years to come with insight and experience from a master gardener.
